FRA! is a Ghanaian band that combines afrobeat, highlife, and afro-funk with elements of rock to create fresh and enjoyable feel-good music. The band was founded in 2015 by six friends from Ghana who used to play music together casually. As they played together more regularly as a cover band, they realized the potential of their synergy and decided to go professional, forming the band FRA!. Their name is derived from the Akan language, meaning "mix," which reflects the varied musical backgrounds and influences of each band member. FRA! aims to revive the organic live music that was popularized by Ghanaian bands like Osibisa and Ramblers in the 70s and 80s, which led to a golden age of band music in Ghana. Their fame has been increasing since they won a contest organized by Casa Africa in 2019, which earned them a tour of Spain. Their debut album, "Journey," was released the same year, and in 2022, they performed at the World Music Expo in Lisbon, where they were regarded as one of the highlights of the event. FRA! has performed across Europe, Morocco, Uganda, and Zanzibar and is well-liked by audiences everywhere they go. The band is now building momentum on social media platforms like TikTok, and they are set to release a new album in June 2023, followed by an extensive European tour.
